Seiko’s new Presage Cocktail Time HCB004 and HCB005 are the same automatic GMT in two very different outfits. HCB004 is the brighter, more extroverted option, with a champagne-colour radial dial and gold-colour bracelet. HCB005 pairs a blue radial dial with a rose-gold-colour case and brown leather strap, so it reads more like a conventional dress watch.

There is no mechanical winner here. Both use the 4R34 automatic GMT calibre, both measure 40.5mm across, and both accept the same familiar Cocktail Time compromises: box-shaped Hardlex and 5-bar water resistance. This is a wardrobe decision wearing a GMT hand.

HCB004 takes the lighter route. The radial dial shifts through pale champagne tones, while the gold-colour case, markers, hands and bracelet make the entire watch look intentionally warm. The finish is not subtle, but pretending a full gold-colour bracelet is subtle would be sillier.

The bracelet is the practical difference as well as the visual one. It gives the HCB004 a more continuous, jewellery-like appearance and avoids the sweat and wear concerns that can come with leather in hot weather. That does not turn a 5-bar dress GMT into a sports watch. It simply makes the band easier to live with in the UAE.

HCB005: the Corcovado in blue

HCB005 uses the same dial architecture but changes the mood. The blue radial finish sits inside a rose-gold-colour case, then a dark brown leather strap pulls the watch back toward familiar dress-watch territory. It is still decorative, just less committed to looking like one continuous piece of gold-colour metal.

The strap should also make HCB005 feel visually lighter on the wrist, even though the case dimensions are unchanged. The trade-off is straightforward for UAE ownership: leather usually asks for more care around heat and perspiration than a steel bracelet. Buy it because the blue, brown and rose-gold combination is the point, not because the spec sheet offers something HCB004 does not.

Seiko’s 4R34 is an automatic movement with manual winding, 24 jewels, a stop-seconds function, a date display and a 24-hour hand for a second time zone. The stated power reserve is approximately 41 hours. That is useful for tracking another office or home time, but it is not a premium movement pretending to be one. The practical GMT function is the reason to choose these over a standard three-hand Cocktail Time.

The case is 40.5mm wide, 12.8mm thick and 47.5mm lug to lug, with a 20mm lug spacing. Those are wearable proportions for many buyers, but this is not a small vintage-style dress watch. The box-shaped Hardlex reinforces the curved Cocktail Time look, while the 5-bar rating keeps the watch firmly in everyday-dress territory rather than swimming-watch territory.

What is actually new?

The pair expands Seiko’s Cocktail Time GMT line with two strongly differentiated finishes rather than a new movement, case or technical platform. That is not a complaint. Colour and band choice are the entire decision in this part of the Presage range. It is simply worth stating before the launch language makes a dial treatment sound like an engineering event.

Which one should you choose?

Choose HCB004 if you want the watch to be the loudest part of the outfit. The light dial and full gold-colour bracelet have more presence, and the bracelet is the easier band material for hot-weather daily wear.

Choose HCB005 if you want the blue dial and a more traditional dress-watch balance. The leather strap visually calms the rose-gold-colour case, though it also needs more care in heat and humidity.

Choose neither if sapphire crystal, stronger water resistance or a slimmer case matter more than the Cocktail Time dial. These are attractive automatic GMT dress watches, not stealth sports watches. The distinction matters.
