Seiko has tightened up one of its most recognisable dress-watch formulas. The new Presage Cocktail Time HCB001, HCB002, and HCB003 keep the textured, colour-led dial treatment that made the line popular, but bring it into a smaller 38.5mm case with a quieter date display.
There are three versions. HCB001 "Emerald Mist" uses a gradient blue dial on a five-row steel bracelet. HCB002 "Mint Mist" pairs its gradient green dial and gold-tone markers with a medium-brown leather strap. HCB003 "Whisky Mist" goes warmer still, with a brown dial, rose-gold-tone accents, and a darker brown leather strap.
Seiko lists the trio at approximately AED 2,055. That is the direct launch-price conversion, so UAE retailer pricing may differ.
The Case Finally Fits the Idea
At 38.5mm wide, 11.8mm thick, and 45.4mm from lug to lug, these are noticeably more compact than the familiar 40.5mm Cocktail Time models. That is the part of this release worth paying attention to. A Cocktail Time should sit somewhere between a casual watch and a dress watch. The old case could wear large for that job. This one makes more sense.
Seiko has used smaller Cocktail Time cases before, but usually for special editions or Arabic-numeral variants. Here, the 38.5mm proportions arrive as part of the permanent collection. The 20mm lug width also keeps the leather-strap versions easy to live with if you want to change the look later.
The case remains stainless steel, with a box-shaped Hardlex crystal, a screw-in display back, and 50 metres of water resistance. Sapphire would have been welcome, but the Hardlex choice is part of how Seiko has kept this range at its current price point.
Three Dials, Three Different Moods
The HCB001 is the most versatile of the three. Its blue dial has silver-toned hands and applied markers, while the bracelet keeps the watch more casual than the strap models. It is still a Cocktail Time, so the dial has plenty of texture and a deep vignette, but blue gives it the easiest route into regular rotation.
The HCB002 leans into the collection's theatrical side. The green dial and yellow-gold-tone details are lively under light, and the medium-brown leather strap brings it back down to earth. This is the reference for someone who wants colour but does not want an oversized watch making the entire outfit for them.
The HCB003 is the restrained pick, even though its brown dial flashes copper in the right light. Rose-gold-tone hands and markers work well here because the dial already has warmth. On its dark brown strap, it has the most conventional dress-watch presence of the trio, but the textured surface keeps it from going flat.
A Better Date Window
All three use a small, frameless date aperture around 4:30. It is still visible, and people who want a completely clean dial will still have opinions about it. But it interferes far less than the older framed date window at 3 o'clock. The dial texture and colour remain the focus.
That small adjustment is easy to overlook in product photos. On the wrist, it is the kind of detail that changes the balance of the whole watch. Seiko did not try to reinvent Cocktail Time here. It cleaned up one of the few parts that regularly divided buyers.
The Familiar 4R35
Inside sits Seiko's 4R35 automatic calibre. It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers manual winding, hacking seconds, 23 jewels, and around 41 hours of power reserve. It is visible through the mineral-glass caseback.
No surprises. The 4R35 has been a core movement in Seiko's accessible mechanical watches for years, and it suits this line. A slimmer movement would have reduced the case height, but it would also have pushed the price in the wrong direction. For a watch priced around AED 2,055, the trade-off is sensible.

Which One Makes Sense?
HCB001 is the easiest recommendation if this is your first Cocktail Time. The blue dial and steel bracelet give it more range. HCB002 is the choice if you want the most colour. HCB003 has the strongest case as a smart-casual or evening watch, especially for someone who already wears brown leather straps.
All three benefit from the smaller case. That is what makes this release feel considered rather than another dial swap. The dials are still bold, the 4R35 is still familiar, and the price remains approachable. The proportions have simply caught up with the watch's original character.
