Seiko's Astron HAB007 and HAB008 introduce gray ceramic to the range, but the buying decision is mostly about finish. Both use the same 43.2mm titanium case, the same 5X83 GPS Solar movement and the same vertically striped gray dial architecture. HAB007 keeps things silver and gray. HAB008 turns the titanium dark and adds metallic-blue details.
Neither is a limited edition. Seiko describes both as regular additions for October 2026. That matters because the gray ceramic is a material debut, not an excuse to manufacture scarcity around two colour choices.
The 15-second answer
The Seiko Astron HAB007 and HAB008 are mechanically identical 43.2mm titanium GPS Solar chronographs. HAB007 is the lighter silver-gray option. HAB008 uses a much darker case and bracelet with metallic-blue accents. The new part is Seiko's first gray ceramic, not a new movement.
What is actually new?
Gray ceramic is the headline. Seiko uses it on the bezel, the bracelet's centre links and the crown cap. Those are all high-contact or visually prominent areas, so the material does more than sit around the dial pretending to be innovation. Its gloss also contrasts with the harder, more industrial look of titanium.
The bezel's decorative outer edge has twelve grooves aligned with the hour markers, while the dial uses vertical striping for depth. These details are shared. HAB007 adds white-silver metal accents around the gray palette. HAB008 combines dark-coated titanium with metallic-blue accents for a more aggressive look.

HAB007 and HAB008 share the same 5X83 platform
Inside both watches is Seiko's calibre 5X83. It is a light-powered GPS movement that can correct local time and time zone through satellite reception. The display includes dual time, world time across 38 cities, a perpetual calendar through February 2100, day indication and a chronograph that measures to 1/20 second for up to 12 hours.
Seiko rates the movement to approximately six months of operation on a full charge, extending to roughly two years in power-save mode. Without GPS reception, the stated precision is ±15 seconds per month between 5°C and 35°C. In other words, the clever part is travel correction. If the watch spends its life in one time zone, much of the dial is technically waiting for a business trip.

HAB007: the quieter version
HAB007 makes the gray ceramic easiest to understand. Its silver-toned titanium case and outer bracelet links give the ceramic a darker, glossier surface to work against. White-silver accents keep the striped dial coherent without adding another obvious colour.
It is still a 43.2mm Astron chronograph with several subdials, a date window and a large two-part bezel. Calling it discreet would be optimistic. It is simply the cleaner of these two.

HAB008: darker case, blue details
HAB008 applies a dark finish to the titanium case and bracelet, then uses metallic blue around the dial and controls. The result makes more of the watch's technical layout. It also reduces the visual separation between the gray ceramic and the surrounding metal, so the blue accents have to do more work.
The movement, dimensions and functions do not change. If HAB008 looks more expensive or more capable, that is the coating talking. The underlying specification sheet has remained remarkably calm.

How large will they wear?
Both watches measure 43.2mm across, 13.4mm thick and 49.5mm from lug to lug. Titanium should keep the physical weight more manageable than the dimensions suggest, but it does not make the footprint disappear. The 49.5mm span and broad bracelet deserve an in-person fit check on smaller wrists.
A dual-curved sapphire crystal with Seiko's clear coating sits above the dial. LumiBrite is applied to the hands and markers, water resistance is 10 bar, and the clasp includes an easy-adjust mechanism. These are useful daily-wear details. They do not turn a complex travel chronograph into a compact watch.
Which one should you choose?
Choose HAB007
For the cleaner everyday finish
- You want the striped dial and ceramic details to remain easy to read.
- You prefer silver-gray hardware over a near-black sports-watch finish.
- You want the less dramatic version of an already busy dial layout.
Choose HAB008
For the darker, more technical look
- You like black-coated titanium and metallic-blue accents.
- You want stronger visual contrast around the dial and pushers.
- You are comfortable paying for a finish change rather than extra functions.
Choose neither if: 43.2mm by 13.4mm is larger than you want, or you prefer the cleaner 3-6-9 subdial layout used by Seiko's newer 5X63 Astron platform.
WristBear verdict
HAB007 is the stronger design if you want to see the gray ceramic itself. The silver-gray case gives the new material clear contrast and leaves the striped dial readable. HAB008 is the more dramatic choice, and its blue accents stop the dark case from becoming one large gray object. It is also the one most likely to date faster.
The more important question is whether you want calibre 5X83 at all. It makes sense for frequent travellers who value satellite time-zone correction, dual time and solar charging in one watch. If that feature set is excessive, the ceramic cannot simplify the dial for you.
