Three Astron models carry the Edo purple theme for Seiko’s 145th anniversary. The international HAB011 is a 43.3 mm GPS Solar dual-time chronograph. Japan also gets the smaller HAC003 radio-sync model and the HAD003 radio-sync chronograph, each limited to 500 pieces.
That makes the Astron group less repetitive than it first appears. The watches share titanium cases, purple gradient dials and gold-coloured details, but the movements and wrist profiles are quite different.
Choose HAB011 for global GPS time-zone adjustment and the fullest feature set. Choose HAC003 for the smallest, thinnest case. HAD003 sits between them with a conventional 41.3 mm chronograph layout and terrestrial radio synchronisation.
HAB011: the global GPS Solar model
HAB011 measures 43.3 mm across, 13.4 mm thick and 49.5 mm lug to lug. The case is titanium, with a ceramic and titanium bezel, dual-curved sapphire crystal and a bracelet with an easy-adjust clasp. Water resistance is 10 bar.
Calibre 5X83 handles GPS time-zone adjustment, automatic and manual time reception, world time across 38 cities, dual time, a perpetual calendar and a 12-hour chronograph measured to 1/20 second. Fully charged, it runs for about six months, extending to roughly two years in power-save mode. Seiko limits this version to 2,000 pieces.
HAC003: the compact Japanese model
HAC003 is the quiet surprise. At 36.0 mm by 8.7 mm with a 42.0 mm lug-to-lug span, it is considerably smaller than the usual Astron silhouette. The pure titanium case, sapphire crystal and 10-bar rating keep the specification serious despite the reduced dimensions.
Its 7B62 movement is solar powered and receives standard-time radio signals in Japan, China, the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom. It is not a GPS watch, so its automatic correction depends on compatible terrestrial transmitters. The advantage is a slimmer watch and a nine-month fully charged operating period. Production is limited to 500 pieces for Japan.
HAD003: radio-sync chronograph
HAD003 measures 41.3 mm across, 10.6 mm thick and 46.8 mm lug to lug. Calibre 8B92 combines solar charging, radio synchronisation, a 60-minute chronograph, a 24-hour hand and world-time display across 25 time zones. It has sapphire crystal, 10-bar water resistance and a titanium case with hard coating.
It is also limited to 500 pieces for Japan. Compared with HAB011, it trades GPS coverage and the more elaborate 5X83 system for a thinner case and simpler everyday layout.

The sensible choice
HAB011 is the flagship and the only one of the three presented as a global release. Its GPS system is useful when travel extends beyond radio-signal coverage. HAC003 is the more interesting design decision because Astron rarely gets this compact. HAD003 is the middle route, although “middle” still means a titanium radio-controlled chronograph with a perpetual calendar.
