Seiko HBJ008 Midnight Riviera Blue: 39mm Solar Speedtimer

The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer “Midnight Riviera Blue” HBJ008P1 is a 39mm V192 solar chronograph with a blue dial, black sub-dials, orange timing accents and a 4,000-piece European run. It is smaller than the recent 41.4mm HBJ001 to HBJ004 models, which is the most useful part of the release.

This is a European limited edition, not a confirmed UAE release. WristBear has not handled or stocked this reference, so the fit, colour and availability notes here come from verified manufacturer sources rather than a wrist test.

The 39mm case is the real headline

The dark blue dial is paired with black sub-dials, orange chronograph hands and orange markers at the cardinal hours. It is colourful without turning into another bright racing watch. The fully brushed bracelet keeps the case side quieter.

The steel case measures 39mm across, 13.3mm thick and 45.5mm lug to lug. The thickness is not especially slim, but the width and length should make this easier to place on smaller wrists than the 41.4mm Speedtimer format. That is a dimensional comparison, not a claim from a WristBear wrist test.

What changed

  • The blue dial, black sub-dials and orange timing accents create the Midnight Riviera look.
  • The case is a compact 39mm rather than the 41.4mm format used by HBJ001 to HBJ004.
  • A brown calf-leather strap is included alongside the steel bracelet.

What stayed the same

  • Seiko’s V192 solar calibre provides a 60-minute chronograph, date and power-reserve display.
  • Curved sapphire crystal, LumiBrite and 10-bar water resistance keep the familiar practical formula.
  • The tachymeter and three-register layout stay firmly in Speedtimer territory.

V192 solar keeps the ownership simple

Calibre V192 is solar powered and runs for about six months from a full charge. The chronograph measures up to 60 minutes in 1/5-second steps. It also provides a 24-hour hand, small seconds, date and power-reserve indicator. Seiko rates precision at ±15 seconds per month.

The case uses curved sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating, LumiBrite on the hands and markers, a tachymeter and 10-bar water resistance. It is a sporty daily chronograph, not a dive watch pretending a tachymeter can rotate.

The Seiko HBJ008P1 includes a brown calf-leather strap alongside its steel bracelet.

Bracelet first, leather strap included

The main configuration uses a fully brushed stainless-steel bracelet with a three-fold push-button clasp. Seiko also includes a brown calf-leather strap. The leather changes the tone more than another blue strap would, and it fits the classic-car idea behind the colourway.

Only 4,000 pieces are listed for Europe. That makes the allocation genuinely limited, but it does not establish future value or UAE availability. The edition size is a fact, not an investment claim.

The practical read The 39mm case is the useful change. The blue, black and orange palette gives it personality, but the compact dimensions and low-maintenance V192 solar movement are the practical reasons to care.

Price and UAE availability

Seiko UK lists HBJ008 at GBP 770. Using the dated GBP/AED quote retrieved for this release, that is about AED 3,744.19. This is an indicative conversion only, not official UAE retail, landed cost or a discount.

WristBear stock and UAE availability are unconfirmed.

Verdict: choose HBJ008P1 for the compact case

The HBJ008P1 makes sense if you want the V192 Speedtimer formula in a 39mm case. The Midnight Riviera colours and included leather strap give it more character than the standard bracelet-only models.

If local availability matters more than a European limited edition, wait. If the 41.4mm Speedtimers felt too wide, this is the more interesting release even before the blue dial enters the argument.
