Citizen’s Four New 44mm Eco-Drive Chronographs Are Not Shy

Citizen Canada has listed four new Classic Eco-Drive chronographs: BL5630-52H, BL5632-57E, BL5640-59L and BL5644-58E. All four use a 44mm stainless-steel case, Citizen’s E821 light-powered movement, a 1/20-second chronograph, perpetual calendar, dual time, alarm, date and 100m water resistance.

The differences are mostly visual. Grey and blue sit on silver-tone steel, one model goes fully gold-tone, and the fourth is two-tone. This is useful variety if you like a large, busy sports chronograph. It is less useful if your first request was “something subtle.”

15-second answer

The BL5630-52H is the restrained grey choice, while the BL5640-59L adds a blue tachymeter look without changing the core specification. BL5632-57E and BL5644-58E are for buyers who actively want gold-tone detailing. Every version is 44mm and uses mineral crystal, so colour is not the only decision.

The specification is shared across all four

Citizen’s Canadian product pages give each reference the same functional base. The E821 Eco-Drive calibre charges from light and drives a chronograph that measures in 1/20-second increments for up to 60 minutes. It also handles a perpetual calendar, a second time zone, 12/24-hour display, alarm and date.

Each watch uses a stainless-steel bracelet with a fold-over clasp and push buttons. There is no hidden premium specification in the more expensive finishes. The extra Canadian dollars buy colour treatment, not sapphire crystal or a different movement.

BL5630-52H: the grey and silver-tone option is the quietest of the four.

BL5632-57E: black dial, gold-tone case and bracelet, absolutely not pretending to be discreet.
Citizen Classic BL5640-59L with blue dial and silver-tone stainless-steel bracelet
BL5640-59L: blue dial and tachymeter styling on silver-tone steel.
Citizen Classic BL5644-58E with black dial and two-tone stainless-steel bracelet
BL5644-58E: black dial, tachymeter bezel and two-tone case and bracelet.

What the E821 brings to the wrist

The movement is the strongest practical argument here. Eco-Drive removes the routine battery-change cycle of a conventional quartz chronograph, while the perpetual calendar reduces date correction. Dual time and an alarm are genuinely useful for travel, even if the dial has to work fairly hard to display everything.

If the ownership question is more important than these specific finishes, our Eco-Drive versus automatic watch guide explains the trade-off between light-powered convenience and a mechanical movement.

UAE availability: do not translate the Canadian listing into a local promise

Availability check: WristBear did not have an exact product match for BL5630-52H, BL5632-57E, BL5640-59L or BL5644-58E when checked on 21 August 2026. Citizen’s Canadian prices should not be treated as UAE pricing, and no UAE launch date is claimed here.

That means this is release coverage, not a disguised product listing. UAE buyers can compare the current Citizen collection at WristBear, but none of the four exact references should be assumed available until a local listing exists.

Verdict: useful calibre, very specific proportions

The BL5630-52H is the safest choice because grey and brushed silver-tone steel let the complicated dial settle down. The BL5640-59L is the better sports-watch pick if you want blue and a tachymeter. The gold-tone BL5632-57E and two-tone BL5644-58E make sense only if the finish is the point.

The catch is shared by all four: 44mm is large, the dials are busy, and mineral crystal is ordinary at CAD 795 to CAD 850. The E821 function set is compelling, but buyers with smaller wrists or a strong preference for sapphire should wait for something else rather than trying to negotiate with the spec sheet.
